Coloreando

NEWS & REVIEWS

Delivering a delicate and inspiring lyrical perspective of the patient work that surrounds real change and improvement, Marta Gómez' Imagino strikes the heart with gentle precision.  Soothing strings and subdued percussive drive form a warmly dynamic foundation for Gómez' clarion vocal tones, granting wings to halcyon melodies and compelling harmonies as Imagino rises and falls as organically as the breath that supports it.

There's such an intense beauty in the simplicity of Imagino's arrangement - with the sparing instrumental support creating a sonic space intimate enough to feel inviting, but open enough to let Marta's voice absolutely soar!  Lovely string work throughout, especially as the song begins to gain energy and motion.  The subtle rainstick goes far to add a depth of atmosphere in the opening and closing moments, though the real driving force behind the song's immersive quality is Marta Gómez' clear and captivating vocal approach. Mesmerizing melodic movements command listener attention and bring a sense of presence to the lyrical flow that only grows with the skillfully applied harmonies.  Gorgeous work through and through, made all the more engaging by a pristine mix and through-thread of careful artistry!

The lyrical content of Imagino, though perhaps less accessible to listeners with no grasp of the Spanish language, contains a message that pierces to the optimistic core of the human experience!  Beyond the words themselves, Marta Gómez' performance communicates an artistic care and obvious comfort in the craft that transcend language and stand to draw listeners from all backgrounds easily into the musical space - blending effortlessly with sublimely understated string work to capture the imagination and ensure a long-lasting impression of Imagino and the heartfelt creative energies contained within!

Marta Gomez, a Latin Grammy winner, is making it her purpose to teach children Spanish through singing. Partnering with the Global Language Project, Gomez has been able to record Coloreando, which won a Latin Grammy itself, and Coloreando Dos which boost Spanish-language appreciation with traditional Latin-American songs.

“I consider myself a singer-songwriter,” she smiles. “All my songs are very political and poetic. And, I'm independent. With the first Coloreando, I got the invitation from Global Language Project to have a CD for kids. I always wanted to record albums for children…But when I got pregnant, I decided it was time to record an album for children because I wanted to see, to compose and to sing lullabies from around the world and music for children to listen, but also for the parents…I wanted to actually record CDs that you enjoy listening to as a child and as an adult.”

- Pitch Engine

Coloreando by Marta Gomez & Friends is a superb collection of traditional Spanish songs sure to delight children of all ages (and native languages).

Expertly performed and filled with repetition and rhythm, Coloreando offers Spanish language students (formal or informal) a way to learn through song. Marta Gomez, a native speaker, gives exquisite voice to the lessons delivering clear and authentic pronunciation at a moderate pace. Each song has a theme which makes it much easier for listeners to pick up words and meaning. Marta's arrangements and musicianship are complemented by Juancho Herrera (guitar), Roberto Cachimuel (violin and charango), Marcelo Woloowski (percussion).

As a Spanish teacher, this CD adds tremendous value in the classroom, incorporating selected songs into my lessons. The CD includes a sweetly illustrated booklet with lyrics in Spanish and the translation in English. Using the lyrics, I am able to isolate selected vocabulary to greatly increase my student's comprehension of the song without using the English translation.

Coloreando, with its genuine warmth and enchanted production, has a place in every music library at home or at school.
